"Gay Jesus" Creator At It Again
Remember Aaron Weaver and his “gay Jesus” controversy last month? Here’s a recap: Weaver created a poster strictly to stir controversy at his school, Lorain County Community College in Ohio. The poster read, “Jesus Christ had a homosexual relationship?” and showed a topless man kissing Jesus on the neck.
Well, this member of Activists for Atheism is at it again with a new “challenge to the environment we live in.” Unfittingly, on September 11 Weaver announced a challenge to other students. Whoever creates the best artistic depiction of the Prophet Muhammad will receive $100 and have their picture posted online and around campus.
His inspiration for this disaster? How about the controversial cartoons that were printed in a Danish newspaper a few years ago? The ones that led to the deaths of 139 people, massive protests, and prosecution for the cartoonists.
Since student groups are allowed to hold contests, and First Amendment rights protect Weaver, there’s nothing the school can do to stop the event.
“I think it’s important to remind people of our rights and the reason that we have them,” Weaver said. “I’m sure there’s going to be some outrage, but (this contest) will provide the perfect opportunity for discussion.”

Just because you have a right, doesn't mean you should exercise it. Sometimes, it's good to at least make an effort not to completley smack the face of good taste. Perhaps having it on 9/12 would have been better, and still gotten the point across, without as much callousness.
