Wash. U offers gender-neutral dorms
Maybe if Kourt Osborn went to Washington University in St. Louis, she wouldn't have such a problem finding a dorm room. WU is going to allow gender-neutral dorms for older students. An administrator told the school newspaper exactly what a lot of transgender students are worried about:
"A housing arrangement based solely on students' biological sexes may be unsafe for some students," said Stephens. "We hope these students will feel they have safer housing options now."
There's also the fact that a female student might want to just live with her best male friend because everyone else sucks.
And it also kind of unfair that first- and second-year students can't live in gender neutral dorms. What? Is there some unwritten law that the junior year of college is when one finally realizes they are in the wrong body?
According to a poll the residence life and housing office that the school did, 64 percent of students approve of gender-neutral living arrangements.
According to the Transgender Law and Policy Institute, there are 25 colleges that have gender-neutral housing.
