King for a day
The students at Pasadena City College were accepting enough to vote for Andrew Gomez, a 24-year-old transgender student for prom king. But administrators were not accepting enough—they were going to yank the crown away from Andrew before he even got to wear it.
Their reasoning: he wore earrings... yeah. Earrings. Luckily a lot of his fellow students fought for him on his behalf to keep his throne.
The creative writing student is in the midst of transitioning from female to male. Two years ago Andrew chopped off his locks and he tapes down "the girls" though, he admits, he's kinda flat chested anyway.
He originally decided to run to prove a point, that the homecoming spots weren't just for the straighties, but was shocked when he actually won.
Um, I love the fact that he annonuced his transition on Facebook. I heart you, Facebook.
